LENOX – A Morrisville woman is facing several felony charges for alleged welfare fraud, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Dorothy Butler, 42, is charged with the felonies of third-degree welfare fraud, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, and third-degree grand larceny.

Deputies say that when she was applying for public assistance, Butler allegedly gave the Madison County Department of Social Services a document that didn’t report all of her household income. Deputies say she received $14,504 in public assistance between June 1, 2015 and April 30, 2018 that she wouldn’t have received if she hadn’t reported the false information.

Butler was arraigned in the Town of Lenox Court and released on her own recognizance. She’s scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 14.
