UTICA, NY-- The mother of the 7-month-old baby, who was found laying the roadway a month ago, appeared in Utica City Court to answer to child endangerment charges.
Ledrika Ford was charged with endangerment of a child, after a Facebook video when viral showing several drivers stopping their cars on Bleecker Street to remove the baby from the roadway. The next day Ford's four children were removed from her custody by Child Proctective Services and placed in foster care.
Ford rejected the plea deal of 30 days in jail and three years of probation on Thursday in court. Her attorney said Ford is working with the Department of Social Services, has been attending mental health services and parental courses, to earn her parental rights back.
But assistant district attorney, Rebecca Kelleher, said all of Ford's efforts were taken into consideration when offering the plea deal.
The case is one step closer to a potential trial. The next step is hearings and motions, which is when attorneys will make arguments on evidence, who can testify or if the case should be dismissed altogether.
Ford scheduled to appear in court again on June 18.
