BIG MOOSE, N.Y. – Multiple fire departments were dispatched to a barn fire in northern Herkimer County Friday evening. The fire then spread to another structure.

The fire broke out shortly after 7:00 p.m. Friday at a barn on Big Moose Road in Big Moose.

Crews had difficulty getting water to the scene due to snowy road conditions. The large fire trucks that carry water were getting stuck in the snow. Fire fighters then requested equipment to pump water to the scene using large hoses.

In the process of securing water to the scene, the fire then spread to a nearby structure.

Multiple fire departments were dispatched; Big Moose, Inlet, Eagle Bay, Old Forge, Otter Lake, and Woodgate.

National Grid was also called to the scene to cut power to the structures on fire. Fire officials also requested DPW crews to the scene to sand and salt the roads because the water was creating icy road conditions.

No word from officials yet on what may have started the fire.
