WEBB, N.Y. (UPDATED) -- Town of Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston releases more information regarding Saturday night's boating accident on Fourth Lake.

Johnston says the accident remains under investigation, and a forensics team is looking into whether each boat had appropriate lighting, as it was dark at the time of the accident.

Johnston says members of two families were on the pontoon boat. The two families have camps near each other on 4th lake.

Johnston says on board the pontoon boat were the driver of the boat, 42-year-old Scott DelMedico of Sauquoit along with his 6-year-old son as well as a friend of Del Medico's from the Rochester area who has a nearby camp, that friend's 6-year-old son and the friend's elderly father.

Johnston says DelMedico was not injured, but his 6-year-old son, as well as the other 6-year-old boy and that boy's grandfather were all airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse where all three remain in critical condition. The other adult on board was taken to St. Elizabeth medical Center in Syracuse were he is in stable condition.

Johnston says authorities did speak with both boaters and although Johnston says he can't say what the suspect in the case, 22-year-old Carter Lawrence of Old Forge, said because of the investigation, he does say DelMedico told investigators the boat that hit him never veered. Johnston added, "The boat never saw them, they report that the boat was straight ahead and never changed course."

Johnston says this is a horrific accident caused by someone who was driving a boat when he shouldn't have been, "This is terrible, that somebody would be intoxicated and then make these young children victims. This disheartens me greatly. Unfortunately this is not the first time this has played out on this lake and we’re going to do everything that we can but our investigation is not complete, we have a lot of work ahead of us and it’s going to take time."
