WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - NASCAR and Watkins Glen International (WGI) announced, Wednesday, that the "Go Bowling at The Glen" Cup Series race has been moved to Daytona International Speedway road course.
This will be the first time since 1985 that WGI will not be featured on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule.
The race weekend will remain on August 14-16, with race day still on Sunday, August 16.
The decision comes amid restrictions where New York State requires travelers from several different denoted coronavirus "hot spots" to quarantine for 14 days after arriving in the state. Many teams are based in states or have been present at tracks in states appearing on the list.
"This is an unprecedented time in the history of our nation and Watkins Glen International," said WGI President Michael Printup. "The dynamic situation we are all confronting is impacting our daily lives and activities in unimaginable ways. While we are disappointed we will not experience NASCAR in New York this year, as we look broadly at the current pandemic in our country and around the world, we must focus first on everyone's safety and well-being as NASCAR seeks the best way to continue delivering a remarkable on-track product week after week."
Ticketholders for the original NASCAR weekend at 'The Glen' will automatically receive a credit for the full amount of their purchase within the next 5-7 days, along with an additional 20% of the amount total.
According to WGI, the credit will be eligible to be redeemed at a future NASCAR race event in 2020 or 2021 at a NASCAR-owned track.
