The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has delayed the start of high-risk winter sports into 2021.
Pending authorization from the New York State Department of Health, NYSPHSAA has scheduled a Jan. 4 start date.

High-risk winter sports include basketball, competitive cheerleading, ice hockey, wrestling and winter volleyball. These sports are considered to be higher risk because there is little to no social distancing, and equipment is either shared or touched by multiple players.
Low and moderate risk sports will start Nov. 30. This includes bowling, gymnastics, indoor track & field, skiing, swimming and diving.
