LENOX, N.Y. (UPDATED) – New York State Police and other agencies were called to the scene of a natural gas leak in the town of Lenox Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Madison County Office of Emergency Management, a natural gas line ruptured and residents in the area were asked to shelter in place. The order was lifted around 5:15 p.m.
Route 5 was closed in both directions between North Court Street and Churchill Lane, but has since reopened.
Madison County Sheriff’s Office, National Grid and the Wampsville Fire Department were also called to the scene to assist.
