After a week of temperatures in the 80s and 90s, we will cool off
quickly this weekend. Almost a 30 degree temperature drop from Friday's high
of 87 degrees to highs barely reaching 60 degrees on Sunday.
High pressure moves in on Sunday bringing plenty of sunshine, but also a
chilly Northwest wind around 15mph. Lots of cold air is brought down from
Canada. Also, high pressure causes air to sink, which brings cold air down
from aloft.
This is the reason why high temperatures on Sunday will struggle to reach 60
degrees. This is very close to the record coldest high temperature, which is
at 58 degrees set in 2009.
There is a chance we could break another record. Sunday night, the forecast
low is in the upper 30s. The record coldest low is 36 degrees set in 1966.
Another note to mention, because the Mohawk Valley will be in the 30s Sunday
night, outlying areas could see a frost. Keep an eye out for a frost warning
as Sunday night gets closer.
