UTICA,N.Y.--- Utica Police are reporting a string of burglaries that occurred Wednesday night in a South Utica neighborhood.
Utica Police tell NEWSChannel 2 that several homes and cars were broken into. A car was also stolen after a person broke into a home and stole the keys.
The burglary unit is investigating several leads including fingerprints and DNA.
"I'm not surprised because many people do not lock their doors. I'm from a much larger city in a much larger country we locked up everything," said Kathrine Mary Jane Wagnor.
Police say that unlocked cars and house doors are easy targets for thieves and some residents like Kris Desanctis are going as far changing the locks on her doors.
"You hope to think that this is a decent neighborhood where this isn't going to happen but it's happening everywhere so hopefully, we will be locked in," said Desanctis.
Utica Police are now seeking additional evidence from the neighborhood. They said if you saw anything suspicious to contact the Utica Police Department at 315-223-3510.
