UTICA, N.Y. --- It was a night many people living in this North Utica neighborhood will not forget. Police going door to door evacuating homes in the area, after a lengthy standoff ultimately ended in tragedy.
Neighbors like Maggie Dimambro woke up to crime scene crews on Van Rennslear Ave. Utica Police said that two people were found dead after a standoff that lasted around 3 hours.
Diambro was heartbroken when she heard what happened with her neighbor.
"He was such a wonderful, friendly person and I would never believe that something would happen to him like that...never," said Dimambro.
SWAT teams knocked on her home to evacuate her, but she slept through it because she said she was hard of hearing."
"I didn't see the police until morning. Because Bill next door I called him up and he said he was freezing because he had to evacuate his home. The reason they were worried about me is that they thought the bullets could enter the house," said Dimambro.
Other neighbors tell NEWSChannel 2 that news of this came as a shock since their neighborhood is normally quiet.
Forensics teams remained on the scene of the home on Van Rennslear for the remainder of the day on Monday.
