NEW BERLIN, N.Y. – Officials gathered in New Berlin Tuesday to break ground at the site of the new fire house and Chobani Community Center on South Main Street.
The fire station will be 7,000 square-feet with six garage bays, offices and rooms for training and storage.
The 2,400 square-foot community center will serve the fire crews and local residents, by providing a space to host events or hold meetings. The center will include a kitchen area and large gathering space.
Nearly $1 million in funding from corporate donations and a $150,000 grant from the state of New York will support the construction project. Key donors include Chobani, with a $650,000 contribution, and Preferred Mutual, donating $150,000.
The current New Berlin firehouse was built in 1971.
