NEW HARTFORD – A former police chief with the New Hartford Police Department has died, the department announced Friday on its Facebook page.
Retired Police Chief Nicholas Cerro first served with the New York State Police, then retired in 1988 when he was hired as police chief in New Hartford. He served as chief of the New Hartford Police Department until his retirement in 1993.
“He was instrumental in transforming the department from a Village to a Town agency,” the department said on Facebook. “Nick was dedicated to his law enforcement career and continued to stay in contact long after his retirement from this agency in 1993.”
The department also offered condolences and prayers to Cerro’s family.
