NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – New Hartford police have released the name of the woman who was hit and killed while walking across Seneca Turnpike Saturday night.
Police say 51-year-old Devri Japngie was crossing the street near Kentucky Fried Chicken while pushing a Target cart full of items when she was fatally hit around 10:15 p.m.
First responders tried taking life-saving measures at the scene before Japngie was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Charges have not been filed against the driver, who police say stopped after the collision and was not found to be drunk or impaired.
The investigation is ongoing.
