UPDATE: New Hartford police report that “it‘s a happy ending” for this pup who led them on a brief chase last night - the dog has been reunited with its owner!

”She has been reunited with her family and I am so thankful to officer Allen for arresting her and bringing her to safety,” said Alicia Ramsey, the owner of the dog, on WKTV’s Facebook page.

Last night an officer with the New Hartford Police Department was led on a foot pursuit by someone of the furry, four-legged kind.

“After a short foot pursuit, we have 1 in ‘custody’,” New Hartford police wrote on their Facebook page.

The department says Officer Allen spotted the dog in the photo running down Alexandria Road toward Seneca Turnpike on Thursday evening, and he got out of the patrol car and called out to it. The dog hopped into the back seat and started howling, then took up its position poking through the window on the ride back to the station.

New Hartford police say the dog was taken to Steven’s Swan Humane Society. If you know who the dog’s owner is, you’re asked to call New Hartford’s Animal Control Department at 315-733-6666.

If you're looking for a pup of your own, you can find plenty of adoptable pets from the humane society here!
