UTICA, N.Y.-With the winter weather headed into our viewing area, The New York State Department of Transportation is preparing to make sure drivers are safe out on the roads.
NewsChannel 2 went to the NYSDOT Region 2 Headquarters in Utica Sunday night to see how the DOT is preparing.
The salt and snow plows are ready to spring into action once the storms hit.
Jim Piccola, The NYS DOT Region 2 spokesperson says they have been preparing for this.
“When the temperatures start to drop we'll be ready to go. Our folks have been working for the last month and a half two months preparing all of the equipment making sure that we have enough salt available and again we are looking forward to getting out there and do what we do best." said Piccola.
Piccola also reminds drivers that they need to give themselves some time when driving in bad weather and stay off the roads during storms if you don’t have to travel.
