DEERFIELD – Nutritionist Kim Ross joined NewsTalk Wednesday afternoon to discuss heart health.
Ross says that the American Heart Association estimated that by 2030, about 40 percent of the American population will have heart disease. However, by 2015 the U.S. had already surpassed that.
Ross says there certain factors that can’t be changed, such as gender and genetic, buts but a big part of it is also lifestyle choices such as diet.
Some of the heart-healthy foods people should be eating include:
- Salmon
- Almonds
- Walnuts
- Flaxseed
- Blueberries
- Broccoli
- Carrots
- Spinach
- Red bell peppers
- Tomatoes
- Sweet potato
BONUS:
- Red wine (however, excess alcohol can be detrimental)
- Dark chocolate (60 percent or higher)
