DEERFIELD – Nutritionist Kim Ross joined NewsTalk Wednesday afternoon to talk about immune systems and the best ways to keep them healthy.
From a nutrition standpoint, Ross said that preventative measures are the most important, and 80 percent of our immune systems are found in our GI track. One of the key ways you can help to fight off colds and the flu is to start by making sure you have a healthy GI track, which can be done by taking probiotics and addressing the things that your gut needs.
Certain foods any supplements can also help to keep you healthy, as well as stress management.
Some important foods and nutrients you can add to your diet include: garlic, ginger, turmeric, green tea, vitamin C, red bell peppers, broccoli, papaya, guava, kiwi, vitamin D, salmon, tuna, cod liver oil, probiotics and homemade fermented foods.
