Potsdam, N.Y. - The No. 5 Colgate University women's ice hockey team is off to its best start in conference play since 2005-06 after remaining unbeaten with a 3-1 win at No. 10 Clarkson, Monday.

The victory improves the Raiders to 4-0-0 in ECAC action (8-1-1 overall). It also marked the team's fourth straight win.

The Golden Knights jumped out to an early lead off a rebound goal from Caitrin Lonergan just over four minutes into the game.

Following that goal, Colgate goalie Kayle Osborne shut Clarkson down, making 24 saves in the game.

Nearly midway through the opening frame, Danielle Serdachny found the back of the net on a sharp angle shot on the power play to knot things back up at 1-1. Tanner Gates assisted on the goal.

Just 1:38 later, Malia Schneider kept the puck in the zone on the blue line and then weaved through the Clarkson defense before going top shelf on the finish for a dazzling individual effort to give the Raiders the lead for good.

Nemo Neubauerova added an insurance goal in the third period 10:34 in with assists from Gates and Rosy Demers, and the Raiders played solid defense the rest of the way to seal it.

New Hartford native Sydney Bard had five shots and blocked three shots defensively in the win.

"That was a hard-fought game tonight at Cheel (Arena)," said Raiders head coach Greg Fargo. "Clarkson put us on our heels early on, but I really liked our response in the first period after getting behind early. The power play got us going and then we were able to settle in nicely and get some timely scoring and defensive stops.

"We continue to play like a team, everyone is chipping in, in their own way, towards the outcome we want. It's a fun team to be with."

The win marks the sixth victory of the season against a top-10 nationally-ranked opponent.

Colgate returns to action on Friday, Jan. 22, when they host St. Lawrence at 5 p.m.
