In case you were wondering what's happening at Hinckley, the answer is: Northern Safety CEO, Sal Longo.
"This was gonna be a corporate retreat for us as well as potentially other corporations, but as I started building it, i just saw so much more opportunity," said Longo. The opportunity to open up his latest venture for all of his hometown area to enjoy.
"Then it turned more into the fact that you can have events here, whether they're weddings, family reunions, people just getting together, so that kind of motivated me to continue to expand it."
The result-Kuyahoora Lodge-a great camp-style lodge with six king bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and three guest bars. There are other private cabins, too, and the usual campground sites.
"The one thing that was missing was a great restaurant. I said I'd never go into the restaurant business...." said Longo, who then revealed that the name of the restaurant will be, "Rocky's on the Lake," after his dog, Rocky.
Apparently Longo isn't the only one who felt such an entity was needed, locally. He says the rentals are pretty much booked for the summer. And, yes-he could have done all this just about anywhere.
"For me, I think that this lake is one of the gems ot the Adirondacks, and to be able to do something so close to my home or upbringing in Utica.."
Longo hopes the restaurant will open near the end of July.
