ROME, N.Y. – More than an ounce of synthetic marijuana was found hidden inside a soap dispenser in a visitors' bathroom at Mohawk Correctional Facility on Saturday.
A female officer found the drugs, also known as K2, during a routine search of the women’s bathroom after all visitors had left the building.
Three latex bundles were found inside the soap dispenser, and the contents tested positive for K2. The drugs weighed more than an ounce and a half.
According to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, an inmate was found with a small quantity of K2 two days prior to this incident.
The drugs were found while officers were conducting a pat and frisk search. Officers say the inmate stuck both hands into his pockets, and would not remove them when asked. He then spit items onto the floor, and began to struggle with the officers. Before he could be restrained, he bit one of the officers on the arm and then proceeded to swallow a plastic bundle.
Officers were eventually able to get handcuffs on the inmate and take him to the infirmary for observation, where a small amount of K2 was found.
The officers had minor injuries but remained on duty for the rest of the day.
