ROME, N.Y. – Officials gathered Thursday to cut the ribbon at Orgill distribution center in Rome, which launched operations in June.

Orgill President and CEO Boyden Moore, Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo and Sen. Joseph Griffo were among those invited to the facility in Griffiss Business and Technology Park to attend the ceremony and take a tour.

Construction on the $70 million distribution center started in April of 2020, pushing on through the coronavirus pandemic to be completed faster than any of the company’s other facilities.

Orgill is an independent hardware distributor that serves more than 11,000 retail hardware stores, home centers, pro lumber dealers and farms stores.

The 780,000 square-foot Rome facility will serve Orgill customers throughout New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and northeastern Pennsylvania.

The company has hired more than 200 people at the Rome location and plans to hire about 90 more by the end of the year. To view available jobs at the facility, click here.

Empire State Development has offered Orgill up to $3.9 million in performance-based tax credits through the state's Excelsior Jobs Program.
