REMSEN, N.Y. – Oneida County officials gathered at Penn Mountain Snow Rider’s Club in Remsen to remind snowmobilers in the area to stay safe this season.
Representatives from Oneida County Tourism say many people come to the county to ride the snowmobile trails throughout the winter, boosting the local economy.
"It's an important part of the economic impact of travel and tourism which is $1.6 billion a year in Oneida County, and our winter sports is a significant part of that. It generates overnight stays, people eating in our restaurants and visiting the attractions when they're off the trails,” said Kelly Blazosky, president of Oneida County Tourism.
Although winter sports attract tourists, officials still stress that safety is paramount.
Sheriff Rob Maciol says laws will be strictly enforced, including operating a snowmobile while intoxicated, speeding violations, registration violations and exhaust modifications.
