UTICA, N.Y. -- Last year alone, the Elder Abuse Coalition in Oneida County addressed more than 200 cases of elder abuse or exploitation.
Wednesday, the Oneida County Office for the Aging held a summer health expo highlighting awareness when it comes to elder abuse.
June 15 was National Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
One workshop taught professionals how to recognize elder abuse, and another helps older consumers and family caregivers learn more about what to do if they fall victim.
“Although it's a growing problem and something we don't always like to talk about, we think the education and awareness around the issue is very important,” said Mike Romano, with the office.
