WESTERNVILLE, N.Y. ---As many fireworks displays and public gatherings for the 4th of July have been canceled, many boaters are flocking to the waterway to celebrate.
Over at Delta Lake in Westernville, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit was busy making sure boaters were staying safe.
Deputy Jay Sorrentino said with this weekend's great weather, he's expecting large crowds out on the water. Those crowds Sorrentino said could be a hazard on smaller lakes such as Lake Delta.
Out on Patrol, Sorrentino watched for any violations out on the water. Whether that was with swimmers or boaters.
Sorrentino encourages all who hed out onto the water this weekend to boat safely.
"We expect that everyone will behave themselves and adhere to the rules of the water," said Sorrentino.
The Sheriff's Office said they will have a presence on the water throughout the weekend.
