ORISKANY, N.Y. – The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has released a checklist to promote cyber safety since students are spending more time online for distance learning while schools are closed during the coronavirus crisis.
In an effort to emphasize safety during this time, the sheriff’s office has been providing materials, like these checklists, for families in the county. They released another one earlier this month with safety tips for kids who are home alone.
The sheriff’s office has also been reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at different schools across the county, and posting information on restaurants that offer takeout and stores that offer special shopping hours.
The Community Affairs Unit of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department is also holding daily livestreams on their Facebook to keep residents informed and engaged while most people are home. Deputies are reading children's books and suggeseting crafts and other activities that can keep kids constructive while many are in self-isolation.
The livestream will run from 10 – 10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday until further notice.
