ONEIDA COUNTY - The Oneida County Sheriff's office is currently investigating a shooting that happened on Thanksgiving morning.

They said at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Darwin Cooley, 50, from Carthage was hunting with his brother in law Travis Dam, 42, from Whitesboro, in an area north of Whitesboro.

Deputies said Cooley shot at a deer that ran between the two men, and the bullet from Cooley's gun grazed the side of Dam's head. They said Dam was able to walk back to his four wheeler and drive away on his own.

Dam was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and then transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center. The Sheriff's Office said said his injuries don't appear to be life-threatening

The incident is still under investigation. Deputies said they believe it was accidental.
