New Hartford, N.Y. - Oneida County continues to try to get the COVID vaccine in as many county residents arms as possible and as quickly as possible.
The county went from receiving 500 vaccines to 1,000 vaccines in previous weeks, and now to this week it received 5,300 vaccines and with that large number, a different vaccination pod is opening each day this weekend in the county, and then another one on Monday.
Saturday's site was at the former JC Penney store at Sangertown Square in New Hartford.
Timothy Masters of Utica was in line early for his appointment, "I'm very excited, it's another step back to normal."
Laura Bushaw of Whitesboro is equally happy to have the opportunity to get vaccinated, "I'm glad. I'm glad to see these pods opening so we can just get things rolling. Just doing our part to keep her safe."
Dave Sullivan of Waterville was also in line early Saturday. He admits he was hesitant about getting the vaccine, "Oh, I just want to get it over with. I'm not really excited about it, but I wanna do it."
Of the 5,300 vaccines Oneida County received this week, 2,400 are being administered here in New Hartford on Saturday and 500 will be administered at Griffiss International Airport in Rome on Sunday.
These pods come after similar pods were set up on Thursday at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Utica and then on Friday at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Event Center in Verona.
Monday, the 5th and final pod for this latest round of distribution will also be open at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Event Center in Verona from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m..
