Oneida County set up cooling stations in Rome and Utica Thursday, for people who need to get out of the heat.
The Utica location is at Union Station and the Rome station is on the Mohawk Valley Community College campus. Both are open until 4 p.m.
Medical professionals advise people to avoid excessive outside activities when it’s this hot out, and to be sure to stay hydrated. This means avoiding or limiting dehydrating beverages that contain caffeine.
Anyone feeling disoriented, confused or shaky after being in the heat too long should seek medical attention immediately.
People are also reminded to keep pets in cool areas and not leave them outside too long in hot weather.
