Oneida meth lab explosion leads to charges for 2 people

Two people are facing a list of charges following a meth lab explosion in Oneida on Monday, according to the Oneida City Police Department.

ONEIDA – Two people are facing a list of charges following a meth lab explosion in Oneida on Monday, according to the Oneida City Police Department.

Oneida police responded to 168 Madison St. on Monday for a reported explosion of a possible meth lab, which caused a fire within the residence. Police say upon arrival they found a smoldering fire inside an apartment, and the Oneida Fire Department was called to the scene.

Bryan Musacchio, 36, and Paula Hunkins, 45, were both taken into custody, and the other tenants of the building were evacuated. During the investigation police say they found meth-making materials and a quantity of finished methamphetamine product.

The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team responded to the scene as well.

Bryan Mussachio is charged with the following:
- Third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine (Felony)
- Criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine (Felony)
- Second-degree criminal possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials (Misdemeanor)
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Misdemeanor)
- Second-degree reckless endangerment (Misdemeanor)
- Endangering the welfare of a child (Misdemeanor)

Paula Hunkins is charged with the following:
- Criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine (Felony)
- Second-degree criminal possession of Mmethamphetamine manufacturing materials (Misdemeanor)
- Endangering the welfare of a child (Misdemeanor)

Musacchio and Hunkins were both arraigned in Oneida City Court. Musacchio is being held in the Madison County Jail on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond, and Hunkins is being held in the Madison County Jail on $2,500 bail or bond. They’re both scheduled to appear in Oneida City Court on Jan. 19.

Officials say more charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
