An Oneida woman is facing several felony charges for alleged welfare fraud, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say 28-year-old Marisha Smith allegedly filed an application for public assistance with the Madison County Department of Social Services that she knew contained false information. Smith allegedly failed to report she was working and earning an income between Sept. 1, 2017 and Jan. 31, 2018, and she received $1,744 in public assistance that she wouldn’t have otherwise received.

Smith is charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing, felony fourth-degree welfare fraud and felony fourth-degree grand larceny. She was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Lenox Court on June 5.
