Oneonta, NY - Over the last month, the City of Oneonta Common Council has met to discuss the appointing of a new city manager after former city manager George Korthauer resigned 8 months ago.
The Common Council met Thursday night to further consider the next steps in leaning towards implementing a new city administrator rather than a city manager and changes to the job description that were detailed the week before.
The only changes that were made to the description was clarification in the definition of the common council is concerned and confirming that the administrator will coordinate with the financial director on decision-making.
Now the changes are to be finalized by the city charter.
“We can ask (David) to put this in final form as a charter change which is actually passed similarly to local law. It requires laying on the desks and then once it's approved in the vote then there's a mayors public hearing before it's signed,” said Mayor Herzig.
The Council then entered an executive session to discuss how these changes could affect current staff members.
Mayor Herzig told Newschannel2 that there are a number of candidates that the council is considering to appoint to this new role. No decision has been made yet.
