Oneonta, NY - The first item on the Common Council's list was to discuss recommendations to reduce the 1.3 million dollar budget which can be taken from of the unrestricted general fund to just 1 million dollars as the city faces another unexpected year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Some budget proposals made by Virginia Lee, Oneonta's Director of Finance, are to defer certain upgrades until July 2021.
Including upgrades to the city's payroll system, sidewalk repairs given that this year's trip hazard repairs were finished this month, travel expenses for next year's New York planning federation conferences which could potentially be held remotely or virtually due to the pandemic, and the reducing of vehicle maintenance codes in city departments.
One final recommendation was the delaying of the hiring of a new city administrator which would save the city $76,800.
The council also reviewed the water and sewer fund budget and the city's five-year capital improvement plan.
Budget changes are still up for review and the draft budget will be presented on November 12.
