ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig confirms a 23-year-old Oneonta man was killed by an Oneonta police officer Tuesday, after stabbing a woman in the leg and threatening officers with a knife.
The unidentified man reportedly had brought a young child outside with him as Oneonta police responded to a domestic dispute around 1 p.m.
Eyewitnesses say the man dropped the baby on the ground and threatened officers with a knife. He was shot twice in the midsection before being taken to Albany Medical Center, where he later died.
Herzig confirmed the death during Oneonta's common council meeting Tuesday night.
Neither the name of the victim or the officer have been released at this time.
The New York State Attorney General's Office is investigating the incident.
