ONEONTA, N.Y. – First Night Oneonta has announced the cancellation of the Hometown Fourth of July Festival planned this summer, as the board was unable to obtain permits due to the restrictions on mass gatherings in New York State.
However, the committee is planning two other events, including The Great Otsego Outdoor Challenge and a second Super Smash Brothers at-home video game tournament.
The outdoor challenge is an eight-week scavenger hunt, where people are asked to take selfies of themselves at eight different trails within that timeframe. More information can be found on the event Facebook page.
The First Night committee says when restrictions are lifted, they plan to hold a smaller festival in honor of essential workers.
