ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The city of Oneonta is working to become a clean energy community.
The city installed its first charging station for electrical vehicles in the Dietz Street parking lot. There is currently no charge to drivers who use the station. Data from the station will be monitored to determine how often it is used.
City Manager George Korthauer says the charging station could benefit the city's economy.
“Once the word gets out that it's here, people who are driving electric vehicles might want to use the charging station,” Korthauer said. “And while their vehicles are charging, they might want to shop at our downtown."
The clean energy community is a part of a state-wide initiative toward local communities becoming more energy efficient.
