ONEONTA, N.Y. – State police in Oneonta are investigating two separate incidents where an individual impersonated a police officer and stopped people for allegedly violating a travel ban in late March.
Police say it was likely the same suspect on both occasions.
During the first incident, the suspect stopped a car and warned the driver they would be fined for violating the ‘travel ban’ if they were caught driving again. The suspect also wrote down the registration information for the vehicle.
Police say the second time, the suspect pretended to be a state trooper while wearing a light grey, long-sleeved button-up shirt.
Police are asking anyone with information, or who has experienced an incident like this, to report it at 607-432-3211.
