ORISKANY, NY – The coronavirus has led to the cancellation of birthday celebrations for hundreds of people in the Mohawk Valley.
But it’s also led to some very special ones.

Like the one Saturday for 70-year-old Diana Pierce of Oriskany.
Family and friends surprised her with a special – socially distant – birthday parade. They drove by her home honking horns and waving happy birthday signs.
Even stopping across the street to sing happy birthday to her.
Diana said she didn’t suspect a thing.
“They said come and sit outside, it’s nice out. So I brought my mask and saw the parade. I didn’t think it would be for me.”
Diane’s family said she had been feeling down after a big party they had planned for her 70th birthday had to be canceled and hoped the parade would cheer her up.
Looks like they’re going to have to work extra hard next year to top this birthday.
