Dante’s Pizzeria, Sal’s Pizzeria, Tino’s, and Wiseguys have teamed up to provide the entire staff at AO Fox Memorial Hospital free lunch. Dante’s Pizzeria Owner Michael Skellie says it was their way of showing how much they appreciate the efforts of all healthcare workers.
"I think we all got a lot of respect for each other right now. I think we’re all going through the same thing, and yeah sticking together…it’s about the community right now. Get through this together."
The folks at Sal’s Pizzeria not only helped put together lunch for the hospital staff, but are taking in anonymous donations and providing meals to other front-line workers throughout the community.
"Our driver went and brought food to somebody who didn’t even know it was coming, and he was absolutely touched because the woman began to cry and just… it was just beautiful, so it’s a feel good all around."
Wiseguys Owner Michael Joubert is also receiving donations, but has taken his role one step further. He’s received around $1500 in donations and is matching every donation dollar for dollar and providing food for those who deserve it, and those who need it.
"It feels special. My staff feels special to be part of it, and anyone that’s donated money has like been…they want to feel like they’re helping out because they know how hard it is for these healthcare workers to be out there every day and encountering it face to face."
Although their faces were covered, you could tell the healthcare workers were all smiles under their masks.
"Woo! Enjoy. We had 2 more places delivering. This is amazing." President of AO Fox Memorial Hospital Jeff Joyner talked about the staff's reaction.
"We’re greatly appreciative of all the work that they’ve done for us during this very difficult time for all folks right now so….that they’ve come together. That they’re trying to show their support for all of our front line workers is very appreciative."
The local restaurants in Cooperstown were also providing the Bassett Hospital Employees with free lunch.
