OTTER LAKE, N.Y. --- The Otter Lake fire department is calling on the community to help them help one of their own. Bob Gape has been a member of the fire department for over 25 years.
On Feb. 16, Bob lost everything in his home after if burned down. Bob also suffered from 2nd and 3rd-degree burns on 20 percent of his body. He is currently being treated at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, but he's in need of home and financial assistance. So the department started a Go Fund Me page, and they say that bob's situation right now is dire.
"He lost everything he has. He exited the fire with the clothes on his back, literally. And that's all he has. So anything we can do for him in any way possible we're trying to do," said Chief Scott Eisenhart.
So far thousands of dollars have been raised for Bob, the page's goal is $100,000. The money raised will go towards helping Bob rebuild his home and to buy things he needs.
