HERKIMER, N.Y. – Revamp Fitness in Herkimer will not be opening its doors on Monday after owner Jason Crippen previously announced his plans to reopen the gym on May 11, against state restrictions.
Like many other local businesses, Crippen was forced to close the gym under state mandates enacted in March to limit the spread of coronavirus.
On Sunday, Crippen posted his new decision not to open the gym to the Revamp Fitness Facebook page, saying in part, "When we released our opening date, we never anticipated getting the response we have. At the same time, we want to remind everyone that Revamp has done everything we’ve been asked to do from the governor’s office from the beginning, didn’t throw caution to the wind and understand how serious this virus is."
Crippen, an officer with the Herkimer Police Department, said his initial decison to open was made after speaking with an attorney.
In the lengthy post, Crippen also added, "We want to thank everyone that has showed tremendous support over the last week! We hope these shelter-in-place orders are lifted soon, and we can’t wait to get back to business as usual."
There is no new date set for the gym's reopening at this time.
