UTICA, NY - Thousands of people across the country, and here locally, chose to remember Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, by taking part in a Day of Service.
Volunteering for different agencies to make their communities a better place.

One of those places in Utica, that is always looking for volunteers is the Parkway Center in Utica.
The center provides health and nutritional, as well as other services to local residents age 50 and above.
They also partner with other agencies in Oneida County who are looking for volunteers.
Kelly Walters, the Executive Director of the Parkway Center, says volunteers are the heart of their organization.
"Having volunteers helps build capacity to do the things we need done to help provide services. We may not be able to pay a staff person to do the job, but having a volunteer helps us to be able to continue providing the programs and services that are really needed"
