UTICA, N.Y. -- With the anniversary of 9/11 approaching, one local community center is collecting donations to help local veterans.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, The Parkway Way Community Center will once again sponsor a 9/11 day of service food drive.
This food drive is to provide a service to veterans in the area as well as honoring the day of remembrance.
“The people that come out and volunteer want to remember and give service back to our community. We have a great community that you know give up their time and they give donations so it's our way to continue um so that we provide service to our area veterans as well remember 9/11,” says Kelly Walters, the executive director of Parkway Center.
The Parkway Center has a big goal in mind...20,000 pounds of food and personal items in just 20 days.
The Parkway Center will be accepting donations at two locations -- 220 Memorial Parkway in Utica and 6734 Route 13 in Verona Beach.
Donations will be accepted until September 9th.
