UTICA, N.Y. – Traffic was backed up for a few hours in Utica Wednesday morning, as vehicles lined up for a milk and food giveaway at Utica College.
More than 4,000 gallons of milk and 43,000 pounds of meat, produce and other dairy products were distributed during the event, which is made possible through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
Volunteers at the site to hand out the food, say more than 1,000 people came to pick up the food.
"This event, it was awesome, to help give out produce and dairy and meat products to everyone, it was a great turn out, it was an awesome event,” said Chenango County Dairy Princess Shelby Benjamin, who volunteered at the event.
This is one of several local food giveaways that have taken place across the region to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis.
Another event is planned at Herkimer College on July 30.
