UTICA, N.Y. – While overall order volume is down, Parkway Drugs owner, Vincent Chiffy, says the demand for deliveries has doubled.
Parkway Drugs has seen a spike in its free delivery services since the start of the pandemic, even buying two new delivery vehicles to keep up with the demand.
Chiffy says volume has decreased, but they’ve been filling more prescriptions at a loss, since costs are going down in pharmacies.
"We see prescription drug prices going up, but in the pharmacy our prescriptions costs are going down, and these are prescription benefit managers, so what they do, is they charge the insurance companies, charge them a higher price and they pay us a much lower price. So, this has affected since it seems like when the pandemic started, our prices actually dropped more than what they usually are,” said Chiffy.
Parkway Drugs has Utica locations on Leland Avenue, Albany Street and French Road.
