UTICA, N.Y. - Phase two of demolition is underway for the new Downtown Utica Hospital.
Phase two focuses on the buildings owned by Mohawk Valley Health System outside the footprint of the new hospital.
"We concentrated our efforts on removal of the properties underneath the footprint but now it's time to start removing those other properties for a number of reasons," Bob Scholefield, Executive Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate for MVHS said. "One, they eventually needs to be removed, but secondly, as we see the number of people working on the site, we'll need to have space for parking for construction workers, we'll need to have space for materials as materials show up to the job site so those buildings will start coming down this week."
A total of five buildings will come down over the next two to four weeks.
