POLAND, NY - The Poland volunteer fire department covers one of the largest fire districts in New York State. They have two stations and over 60 volunteers that provide fire and emergency services to Poland, and the surrounding area.
Saturday they held a fundraiser at their main station to help improve those services.
Fire trucks from the Poland fire department and other surrounding departments were on display for people to get an up close and personal look at. Hungry? No problem. There were also plenty of food trucks there as well. There were a couple of bounce houses for the kids, and for the big kids, a car show.
Katherine Burritt, who chaired the fundraiser, and herself a Poland volunteer firefighter, says the money raised will be used to purchase a siren for the station.
"It's used to let any volunteers know that there is a fire call. Not everyone has access to a phone at all times so it lets everyone know, hey, come to the firehouse we have a call. It also alerts the area that there is an emergency happening and to keep an eye out for any fire trucks or firemen running around”.
The next planned fundraiser for the department is a drive thru chicken barbecue that will take place on Columbus Day weekend.
