Poland girls soccer team welcomed home after winning Class D championship

After winning the Class D Championships in Cortland, the Poland Girl's soccer team got a warm welcome home.

POLAND, N.Y -- After winning the Class D Championships in Cortland, the Poland Girls soccer team got a warm welcome home.

The Herkimer County Sheriff's Department, as well as the Poland Fire Department, escorted the team's bus through town. 

Waiting for them at the high school were friends and family, welcoming them home.

The girls played Avoca High School in this morning's championship-winning game. They won 6 to 1.

The team said they worked very hard this season and are thrilled to see it pay off.

"It's pretty amazing for it to be my senior year it's pretty amazing. We've worked pretty hard ever since august and I'm so glad it paid off and for it to be my senior year and for us to win state champions it's pretty good," said Goalkeeper Emily Schrader.
