WEBB, N.Y. – An Old Forge man was arrested after police say he fired a shot to scare a woman he believed was trespassing on his property.
Town of Webb police responded to Herreshoff Road just after noon on Monday after receiving a call of shots fired.
Police say Andrew J. Minnie, 54, was in the woods hunting when he fired a shot from his shotgun to scare a woman he thought was planning to hunt on his property. Minnie allegedly yelled at the woman to get off his property while he was out of sight in the wooded area.
When police interviewed the woman and another witness, both said they saw a man hunting in the woods, who was later identified as Minnie.
After investigating, police determined the woman did not walk through Minnie’s property. They say she was walking to another area where she was given permission to hunt.
Minnie was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a D felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.
Minnie was arraigned in town of Webb Court and released after he posted $750 bail. He also surrendered all firearms, per court order, to the town of Webb police.
