WEBB, N.Y. (UPDATED) – Authorities recovered the body of 78-year-old Robert J. Burik from Fourth Lake Tuesday, after police say he drowned while out on a fishing boat.
Burik, of Pennsylvania, was out fishing alone, according to his family. Police say he likely ended up in the water after losing his balance, or control of the boat, while rigging fishing lures.
Authorities were called to the scene after receiving reports of an empty boat doing circles in the bay near Cedar Noll point. Firefighters were able to stop the boat, and confirm that nobody was inside.
After a seven-hour search, dive teams recovered Burik’s body from the water.
Several agencies assisted at the scene.
