Police, doctors warn people drinking for St. Patrick's Day Parade to stay off roads

State police have stepped up patrols and DWI checkpoints all weekend long.

UTICA, N.Y. -- If your St. Patrick's Day plans involve drinking any amount of alcohol, police say to stay off the roadways – and now doctors are echoing the warning.

Experts say reaction time and ability to pay attention while driving can be affected after just one drink.

Doctors say designating a sober driver, or using public transportation – are the best ways to get to and from St. Patty's Day festivities.
